Rajesh Rao, UW associate professor of Computer Science and Engineering and adjunct faculty in Electrical Engineering and Bioengineering, has been named as director of the National Science Foundation’s Engineering Research Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering (CSNE) based at the University of Washington.

UW Bioengineering has a strong connection to the CSNE. Bioengineering research associate professor Eric Chudler acts as CSNE Executive Director and many other UW Bioengineering faculty interested in neuroscience, brain-computer interfaces and robotics are CSNE members.

Dr. Rao advises UW Bioengineering graduate student Jeremiah Wander; together they research brain-computer interfaces.

The CSNE is one of 17 Engineering Research Centers (ERCs) nationwide that aims to translate discovery to innovation through university, industry and government partnerships, and prepare the next generation of creative, interdisciplinary engineers to meet pressing challenges in health, energy, environment and national security.
