The UW Bioengineering community celebrates a historic season as both the Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs secured major titles this year. These victories highlight the incredible discipline of the pair of Bioengineering student-athletes who excel in the classroom and in competition.
Historic Run for UW Women’s Soccer
The Women’s Soccer team made history this season, winning their first Big Ten Tournament title. Their strength carried them deep into the postseason, as they advanced to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals.
Avery Nguyen, Bioengineering senior and a forward, was instrumental to the team’s success. She appeared in 18 games with two starts, playing at least 30 minutes in each appearance. Her academic excellence earned her a spot on the 2025 Academic All-Big Ten Team. Read more on the team’s Big Ten Tournament win.

National Victory for UW Men’s Soccer
UW Men’s Soccer won their first National Championship last month following a hard-fought overtime victory against North Carolina State University. Conner Leber, a Bioengineering senior and defender, started three games during the championship campaign. His success extends beyond the field: he was named to the 2025 Academic All-Big Ten Team and a 2025 Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree. Check out highlights from the championship.
“Student-athletes like Avery and Conner reflect the values of Bioengineering so well,” said Chair Princess Imoukhuede. “The discipline and perseverance they bring to elite competition are the same qualities that will drive their success as they invent the future of medicine. We’re proud to support their growth as Bioengineering scholars and champions. What a tremendous season for our Huskies!”
