Katherine Meinhold, who completed her UW Bioengineering PhD just last week, received the Student Award for Outstanding Research from the Society for Biomaterials, the professional society that focuses on materials for medical and biological applications. Meinhold is part of the Tissue and Regenerative Engineering Lab, led by Professor Jenny Robinson from the UW School of Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
Meinhold studies the production of fibrous scaffolds for in vitro models mimicking native meniscal tissue structure and investigating how these can be used as 3D systems for cardiovascular and bone differentiation. She earned a BS in Material Science and Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2021.
“Katherine uses her biomaterials training and materials science knowledge to the benefit of multiple collaborators here at UW and beyond. She is actively working on three collaborative projects,” said Robinson, who is also core faculty in the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine.
