Levinson Emerging Scholars Award
The Levinson Emerging Scholars Award supports talented and highly motivated juniors and seniors pursuing creative and advanced bioscience and related research. Four bioengineering students have received the 2022/2023 award.
Fang-Hua (Flora) Hu is a junior studying bioengineering and philosophy. She is a member of the Mathieu lab in the Institute for Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine. Additional honors include the 2022 Robinson Center Paradise Scholarship, the 2022 Population Health Recognition Awards and the 2021 Mary Gates Research Scholarship.
Joey Liang is a bioengineering senior. A 2022 Husky 100, Joey also received the Mary Gates Research Scholarship in 2021. He works in Suzie Pun’s Lab.
Senior Carter Rowell is studying bioengineering, applied mathematics, and neural computation and engineering. He works in the Daggett Research Group, and also received the 2020 Honors General Chemistry Achievement Award.
Bioengineering and biomedical engineering junior, Jamie Yang, works in Patrick Boyle’s Lab. She also received the Hershel D. Graves Scholarship in 2022 and the Mary Gates Research Scholarship, also in 2022.
Washington Research Foundation Fellowship
Bioengineering senior Zoe Chau, who was profiled in an article about her contributions to a paper about exosomes, is a member of the James Lai lab, who is now associate professor for the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Zoe is also a teaching assistant. This is her second year being awarded the Washington Research Foundation Fellowship. She previously received the Mary Gates Research Scholarship and Stratos-Stephan Endowed Fund for Education.
Eesha Murali, a bioengineering senior, works in the Regnier lab. She was also a recipient of the 2022 Mary Gates Research Scholarship.
Tran Luu, a bioengineering senior, works in the Pun Lab and is also a teaching assistant. Her additional honors include the 2022 Mary Gates Research Scholarship, Clayton E. & Helen N. Danner Endowed Scholarship and the TRIO Academic Award, both in 2021.
Mortar Board Alumni/Tolo Foundation Elizabeth Ayers Scholarship
Mortar Board is a national honor society recognizing college seniors for their exemplary scholarship, leadership and service.
Bioengineering senior, Dylan Riley was awarded the 2022 Mortar Board Alumni/Tolo Foundation Elizabeth Ayers Scholarship.
Rachel Shi is a bioengineering master’s student and a member of the Buddy Ratner lab, Rachel is also a graduate teaching assistant. Additional accolades include the 2022 Population Health Recognition Awards, the 2021 Levinson Emerging Scholars Award, the Mary Gates Research Scholarship, the Chinese Institute of Engineers APA Scholarship and the Professor Allan S. Hoffman Endowed Scholarship.
