UW Bioengineering graduate student Anna Blakney receives 2014 GROW with USAID fellowship. The GROW program, a collaboration between NSF, international partners and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), to provide current NSF Graduate Research Program Fellows with opportunities to engage in international research collaboration.

Anna, currently researching in Kim Woodrow’s lab, will spend 6 months at University of Cape Town. While working in Heather Jaspan’s lab there, Anna plans to investigate the timing of the BCG vaccine (commonly used to prevent tuberculosis) and HIV acquisition from an immunological perspective.
