UW Bioengineering is among several UW departments ranked in the world’s top 10 in their respective fields in the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects list for 2018. The ranking, released in July, was compiled by researchers at the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The study ranked more than 4,000 universities in 52 subjects across engineering, and the natural, life, medical and social sciences. Factors in the ranking included the number of papers published by each institution, the impact factor of the journals in which the papers were published and the number of high-profile awards won by faculty.
In both 2017 and 2016, UW ranked in the top 15 on the group’s annual Academic Ranking of World Universities list. This year’s university ranking has not yet been released.
UW BioE was named fourth in the ranking’s top biomedical engineering programs. Other universities finishing in the discipline’s top five were Harvard University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Duke University.
