Private support from individuals and organizations is essential to UW Bioengineering’s success. Federal funding and tuition revenue helps but often more is necessary to support our world-class research and education programs. Endowed scholarships, fellowship, professorships and chairs, as well as flexible unrestricted gifts can translate into tangible opportunities and benefits for our faculty and students.

Department priorities needing your support

Graduate Fellowship Support Fund

Our most important need is for graduate student support. UW Bioengineering is committed to recruiting the brightest students by offering a competitive package to fund their first full academic year. Your gift will help enhance our ability to attract the best candidates into our program.

Bioengineering Leadership Fund

Most financial support comes with very specific limitations on how it can be spent. This fund is a critical resource for the Chair, allowing the department flexibility to respond to emerging needs and opportunities. Your gift will promote activities related to the recruitment of faculty and special initiatives that extend the breadth of bioengineering research and education into the broader community such as symposiums and professional conferences.

Bioengineering Undergraduate Scholarship Fund

As tuition costs rise, Bioengineering is committed to providing scholarships to offset expenses for deserving students. Every year the department promotes academic excellence by awarding eligible students based on academic merit, research potential and financial need. Your donation to this fund is especially valuable to our students (and their families) during these times.

Rushmer Research Bioengineering Fund

This lectureship was created in 1985 to honor Dr. Robert F. Rushmer, founding Director of the Department of Bioengineering. The lecture attracts the foremost authorities in this diverse field as guest speakers; this annual intellectual and social event is the highlight of the year, benefiting an audience of students, alumni, faculty, colleagues in the Seattle community and corporate partners.
