UW Bioengineering Associate Professor Albert Folch presented the keynote lecture at Duke University’s Annual Mahato Memorial Event on November 19th, 2014. In his talk, Dr. Folch talked about his project, BAIT (Bringing Art into Technology), the history of “sci-art” – the intersection of art and technology, and the value of art in science.

The Mahato Memorial Event honors Abhijit Mahato, a former Duke engineering graduate student who was tragically murdered on Friday, January 18, 2008. He valued activities that bridged the gaps between the science/engineering and social sciences/humanities disciplines, including sports, chess and photography. The event is a celebration of Abhijit’s life and brings together the graduate and professional community at Duke to share their talents and engage in friendly competition.
