UW Professor of Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering David Castner was named as the 2014 recipient of the Rivière Prize from the UK Surface Analysis Forum at the November 2014 American Vacuum Society International Symposium and Exhibition.
The Rivière Prize is presented to researchers whose work has significantly impacted the field of surface analysis. Specifically, this award recognized Dr. Castner’s contribution to the study, analysis and understanding of biological and biomaterial interfaces. Dr. Castner has provided stimulus, guidance and encouragement to researchers working in the field. He has been quick to recognize and investigate the potential of methods new to the area such as SIMS, NEXAFS and non-linear optical techniques. His research, regular presentations and tireless work in numerous international committee and advisory boards has ensured that the surface analysis of biomaterials is recognized as a significant and important activity.
