UW Bioengineering Graduate Academic Counselor Dorian Varga is the 2013-14 recipient of the GO-MAP Graduate Staff Leadership Award. The GO-MAP Graduate Staff Leadership Award acknowledges the leadership, service and mentoring efforts of a UW graduate program staff member to promote and support graduate student diversity. Dorian will formally accept the award at the GO-MAP Soirée event on Thursday, May 29.
This award honors Dorian’s commitment to the students served by GO-MAP and beyond. She is recognized for her consistent efforts to promote diversity in graduate education in her role as graduate academic counselor. Dorian has committed countless hours to serving on GO-MAP committees, focus groups, seminars and workshops that have ultimately enhanced the program’s pipeline efforts and resources available for graduate students.
GO-MAP, or the Graduate Opportunities and Minority Achievement Program, is a unit of the UW Graduate School that serves the needs of students of color and students from underrepresented groups. The program fosters an educational and social environment through experiences rich in cultural, ethnic and racial diversity. GO-MAP facilitates student outreach, recruitment and retention, enhances scholarship and research and builds community on and off campus.
