UW Bioengineering is pleased to announce the tenure-track hire of Barry Lutz, the new hire of Gianluca Interlandi and the promotion of Suzie Pun to full professor.
Barry Lutz starts a tenure-track assistant professor position effective September 16. Previously research assistant professor in BioE, Dr. Lutz will establish an independent laboratory to continue his research as well as develop and teach new courses in his new position. Dr. Lutz’s research interests include point-of-care diagnostic devices for infectious disease diagnosis in low-resource settings and improving technologies to treat hydrocephalus, a condition that results from abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain.
Gianluca Interlandi was appointed research assistant professor effective July 1. Dr. Interlandi, formerly a senior fellow and research scientist in UW BioE Associate Professor Wendy Thomas’s lab, investigates the function of proteins involved in hemostasis and thrombosis at the molecular level, and how they interact with each other and with material surfaces.
Suzie Pun will be promoted to full professor effective September 16. Dr. Pun’s research focuses on developing bioinspired materials to advance drug delivery and molecular imaging technologies. Dr. Pun will continue to hold the Robert F. Rushmer Professorship in recognition of her extraordinary service to UW Bioengineering.
