Christopher Sims, M.D.

My laboratory is developing new technologies for biomedical research applications.
Analytical tools for cell biology
Stem cell technologies for pharmaceutical and microbiome research
Microfabricated platforms for cellular studies

Current research is aimed at the development of cell-based biochemical assays, microfabricated technologies for clinical and biomedical applications, and stem-cell based organ-on-chip platforms, with a particular focus on the intestine and its microbiome. Dr. Sims is the scientific co-founder of four companies based on developments of his research program: Protein Simple, Intellego, Cell Microsystems, and Altis Biosystems. He is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

Dr. Sims received his BS with double majors in Chemistry and Biology from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1980. He received his MD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1984.
He went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 1987.

Dr. Sims completed two clinical fellowships in General Internal Medicine and in Rheumatology at Stanford University Hospital from 1988-1993.
He then completed a postdoctoral basic science research fellowship in Physiology & Biophysics at the University of California, Irvine under the mentorship of Michael Cahalan.
