Dr. Sims received his BS with double majors in Chemistry and Biology from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1980. He received his MD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1984.
He went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 1987.
Dr. Sims completed two clinical fellowships in General Internal Medicine and in Rheumatology at Stanford University Hospital from 1988-1993.
He then completed a postdoctoral basic science research fellowship in Physiology & Biophysics at the University of California, Irvine under the mentorship of Michael Cahalan.
